What is CBD (Cannabidol)?
WHAT IS CBD?
You probably hear a lot about CBD. All of a sudden, there are beverages, salves, lotions-- it is everywhere!
While it's receiving a lot of notable attention, let's start with some basic information to determine if it's right for you.
What is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidol) is one of over 60 compounds found in the cannabis plant. It belongs to a class of compounds called cannabinoids. Of these compounds, CBD and THC are present in cannabis plants in the highest concentrations and are the most recognizable. Within different strains and varieties of cannabis, these levels may vary.
In the last several decades, selective breeding techniques have produced strains of cannabis that are specifically high in this compound.
Unlike THC, it does not cause a “high” and is commonly referred to as “non-psychoactive”. Studies suggest that
it acts to counter the intoxicating effects of THC. This includes reducing things like memory impairment and paranoia.
Both molecules present no possible risk for a lethal overdose. Patients and consumers looking to reduce the negative side
effects of THC might find some relief with these products.
